The model comprises four wheels, of which two are driving and two idle: the rope passes over them wound in a figure of 8. The mechanism is set in motion by a handle which engages one of the two toothed wheels. There are two iron cables which hold a stirrup bar. A person with their feet on this bar and tied with a belt can turn the handle in order to go up and down along the rope, together with the whole mechanism.
