Description:
The shape of boats’ hulls was extremely important to Leonardo, whose starting point was the observation of the anatomy of fish, to then suggest rounded prows, which are more hydrodynamic that those with acute angles. One of the solutions presented by Leonardo is for a boat with a double hull, which would give more stability as it floated and limit the damages produced by accidental collisions or deliberate ramming. The two hulls are separated by a cavity and so, should the external planking be broken, the flotation of the boat should still be assured by the inner hull.
