Description:
This model interprets a drawing in Leonardo’s Codex Atlanticus and shows the shaft or axle of a cart that uses a system of roller bearings. The axle, rather than going all the way into the wooden or metal support, rests, near the wheel hubs, on two pairs of cylindrical rollers (one on each side), which act as bearings as they allow the shaft to turn faster and with minimal friction. The invention must certainly be considered as devised for application in the construction of mechanically driven carts.
